Comscore recently released figures for the US, display advertising market. You won’t be surprised to hear that Netflix was among top companies like AT&T, Scottrade, Verizon, Experian, Progressive, and Apollo Group. Netflix is the 7th largest online advertiser in the US! Wow. Last year, according to the Netflix 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (this is a financial report that lists all of Netflix’s costs and revenues generating during their last fiscal year) the company spent a whopping $294 million in marketing expenditure, most of which went to online marketing and paying their affiliates. That’s a huge amount of marketing spend, putting Netflix in the top bracket with the world’s largest advertisers, mostly from the financial services sector.

Top tier advertisers are a mix of consumer technology goods and financial services like online stock trading, credit report services, and insurance services. Netflix should be honored to be among the largest and most highly regarded services in the US!
