Believe it or not, 6 out of 10 of the movies watched online are streamed through Netflix subscriptions. That’s huge! NPD Group, a market research company that monitors online behavior, found that Netflix’s share of digital movie units (industry jargon for steaming movies and downloads) rose to a whopping 61% in February. The next competitor is trailing by several years: Comcast had 8% market share in digital movie units with DirecTV, Time Warner, and Apple all lagging with 4% each. Online movies is a big business!

That said, DVDs and Blue-ray still drives the vast majority of revenue related to in-home movie watching. Watching movies online is easy these days–online movies make up one quarter of movie consumption at home.
